Russ Bernthal

A veteran fintech executive and entrepreneur with 40+ years leading software, consulting, and profitable operations across banking and technology services.

Passionate about technology’s role in financial services, Russ is known for blending entrepreneurial drive with operational rigor. He’s a past board member and President of the Association of Financial Technology (AFT), and today enjoys mentoring industry leaders and giving back through community boards. A graduate of Carthage College (BAs in Business Administration & Psychology) and Loyola University Chicago (MBA in Finance), Russ lives in Winston-Salem with his wife Lisa, two married children, four grandchildren, and three beloved Labradors.

Russ brings over four decades of entrepreneurial and leadership expertise in software products, consulting services, business development, and operations. He began his career in 1979 in computer operations at Warshawski & Company and by age 26 had launched his first company selling IBM® PCs and accounting systems. In 1992, he became SVP of Consulting at SHL Systemhouse, overseeing midwestern systems integration, and in 1998 served as EVP at Parks Consulting, focusing on financial services. Russ joined Jack Henry in 2005 via the acquisition of Tangent Analytics, where he was President & CEO, and ultimately became President of ProfitStars®, leading a division with 9,000 clients before retiring in 2021. He has founded or developed five product and consulting firms, and has overseen large-scale software and service initiatives throughout global markets.
